GA olive industry gets a boost

LAKELAND, GA (WALB) -

The USDA and the Lanier County Development Authority are partnering to advance Georgia's emerging olive industry

The USDA is awarding a $300,000 Rural Business Enterprise Grant to the Development Authority of Lanier County for the purchase of an olive press, which is essential to the successful expansion of Georgia's olive farms. 

During the Flatlanders Arts and Crafts Show, at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 31, 2013, the community is invited to the project announcement and check presentation followed by a tour the Georgia Olive Farms.

The Flatlanders Arts and Crafts Show is centered at the Jim and Mary Threatte Arts & Civic Center, 209 Hwy 221, Lakeland, GA 31635.

For this event, check in at the Georgia Grown tent, a free trolley has been arranged for travel to the Olive groves for a tour following the Check Presentation.
