ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

A motorist was killed on I-75 in the Atlanta area after stopping to change a flat tire.

Morrow Police say the driver was on the side of a highway near an entrance ramp when he was hit by a car.

We spoke with the Dougherty County Police Department about steps motorists in South Georgia should take for their safety when changing a tire.

"If possible, I know it's not always possible, try to move off the roadway into a safe location...the common courtesy of moving over to the other lane doesn't happen now, and people are being struck by vehicles, and it's resulting in deaths or serious injuries," said Capt. Jackson, Dougherty County Police Department.

Dougherty County Police say it's been years since someone has been killed while changing a tire on a South Georgia road.
