It's been a hard couple of months for those at the Sheriff's office in Miller County, even with Rathel in as an acting Sheriff they have yet to find an official replacement.

The first day of early voting starts Monday and according to Judge McNease there has been a lot of activity at the registration office lately. The four candidates who are running include: RJ Francois of Dougherty County, Mike Middleton of Georgia Pacific, Scott Lawson from Colquitt Police and Chief Deputy Shane Rathel.

McNease says because it's an open race, they're not having to run against an incumbent-- which allows them with an opportunity for someone to just step up to the plate.

Once a candidate is elected they will serve till January 1st of 2017. Some voters are saying that whoever wins they hope they will follow in Buddy's footsteps.

The official election day will be September 17th.
