Consultants advise reworking DCSS police

Retired GBI agents who were asked to conduct an assessment on the Dougherty County School System's Police Department suggest that the school board abolish-- or reorganize-- the department's current rank structure.

They say supervisors haven't had the authority over lower ranking officers and are not paid enough.

In June, the Dougherty County School System said that a team of credentialed investigators was hired to make an assessment of the operations of the Dougherty County Police Department.

The team conducted more than thirty interviews with DCSS board members, system administrators, outside public safety officials and every sworn, full time DCSS police officer.

The team collected supporting documents and examined police department equipment and facilities, and is making its recommendations to board members.
