LEESBURG, GA (WALB) -

Hundreds of Lee County Elementary students, teachers and law enforcers came together Monday morning for the dedication of a new school.

After 14 months of construction on 40 acres of land, Lee County Elementary finally opened its doors last week. It's now the second elementary school in the county, and the old building became the second middle school this year.

Today's gathering celebrated the expansion for the school system. "One little girl just said 'wow' and I think all of our students have shared those words. You know, it is different. It's very open and it lends itself to a lot of different educational activities," said Lee Co Elementary Principal Donna Ford.

SPLOST is funding the $14 million building over the next five years.
