High school football: SGA dominates, Byne earns program's first win

SGA 35, Ashford (AL) 14

The Southwest Georgia Academy Warriors were one of few teams playing a game that matters Friday night.

While many Georgia teams were scrimmaging, SGA was hosting Ashford Academy from Alabama in the regular season opener.

The Warriors didn't let the Falcons even get out of the blocks, jumping out to a 28-0 halftime lead.

Junior RB Perry Bridges was the Warrior workhorse, churning up 161 yards on 23 carries.

Bridges scored three times, including a 30 yard run that ended with a semi-cartwheel into the endzone.

SGA (1-0) travels to defending AAA state champion Deerfield-Windsor next Friday, in the Knights' home opener.

Byne Christian 34, Westside Baptist 0

The first game in Byne football history went about as you'd expect: a 44-0 loss to a good Appling Christian team.

But in just their second game in history, the Saints picked up the school's first ever football win.

The Saints took out Westside Baptist, 34-0 in Warner Robins Friday night.

Byne is now 1-1 in school history.

They're at home next Friday against Coastal Homeschool.
