A longtime chamber of commerce president in south Georgia is running for political office.
Thomas County Chamber President Don Sims announced his candidacy this week for Thomasville City Council.
Sims has worked for the county for 25 years as a representative for economic and industrial development.
"Somebody asked me, well what are you mad at? Why are you running and want to change? I said I'm not mad and anything. I believe in a positive enhancement of what we already have. Our leadership in this community has done a good job to build a solid base and make a good community," says Sims.
Sims will retire as chamber president on September 30th.
