Alcohol sales in Tifton to be decided at polls

Tifton voters will decide whether alcohol can be sold on Sunday.

The Tifton City Council unanimously approved a resolution Monday night, adding two referendum questions to the November 5th ballot.

One would allow liquor by the drink in restaurants on Sundays. The other would allow package sales in stores.

"Let's allow the people to vote. Let's give the citizens a right to vote," said Tifton Mayor Jamie Cater. "That's what this country is founded on. And regardless of how I feel about it, I'll vote my convictions, just like everybody else, come November the 5th. So we're going to put it out there for them."

The Mayor says the city was approached by the Tourism Association to implement Sunday sales to accommodate folks traveling through Tifton.
