VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) -

In a news release issued late Monday afternoon, Moody officials say that a staff sergeant was found dead at approximately 2 a.m. Sunday.

Staff Sgt. Kevin E. Jones was found hanged at Eastwind Park in Valdosta, Ga. and immediately transported to South Georgia Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

The park is near Valdosta High School.

Jones, 27, was assigned to the 23d Logistics Readiness Squadron at Moody Air Force Base as a small terminal operations journeyman.

"The Moody family is deeply saddened by the death of Staff Sergeant Jones," said Col. Chad Franks, 23d Wing commander. "Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, loved ones and the Airmen with whom he served as they grieve this loss."

The cause of death is under investigation.
