ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

The Albany-Dougherty Payroll Development Authority today approved the sale of 10 acres for the development of a regional hospital distribution cooperative at Pecan Grove Corporate Park in Albany. The project will create up to 50 jobs.

According to a release, the intent of the co-op is for regional hospitals to partner for the purchase and distribution of hospital supplies.

The plan is to provide a service for hospitals to buy in bulk, saving hospitals money.

The sale of the land, at $15,000 per acre, was approved to Phoebe Putney Health System, parent of Albany-based Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital, which has facilities throughout Southwest Georgia.

Officials say tentative plans are for a 100,000 square-foot distribution center at Pecan Grove, which has four-lane highway access and sits across from Southwest
Georgia Regional Airport.

The release notes the co-op project was brought to the ADPDA by the Albany-Dougherty Economic Development Commission.
