Albany Police ask for public input during evaluation

Albany Police have started the evaluation process called accreditation Monday. Commanders hope the accreditation will reinforce the public's confidence in the department.

The authority is being judged by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, which is an internal body that sets professional standards for law enforcement.

The community is asked to share their opinions of the police department with the commission at 6 p.m. at the Law Enforcement Center in Albany.

Viewers gave mixed opinions when asked about how the department was doing in early July.

The accreditation commission has established 480 standards to test the professionalism of a police force. The process measures everything from policy and procedures to the relationship with other agencies in the process.

The Albany Police Department is taking part in the accreditation review process on a volunteer basis. They say they want to see how they compare to other agencies, and continue to improve.
