AMERICUS, GA (WALB) -

Friday, some South Georgia educators and the Kiwanis club celebrated a college's decades of teaching.

South Georgia Technical College is celebrating its 65th anniversary.

The president of the college said the school's grounds were originally used for World-War I aviation training back in 1918.

But he said lots has changed since the campus was founded in the late 1940s. He said the college's future is bright.

"What we've been able to do the last 65 years is change lives.  And we've been able to do that through quality education programs, building strong partnerships and industry, and preparing individuals to go out and bring value to their employers," Sparky Reeves, South Georgia Technical College President.

Reeves said all the buildings on the campus have been renovated.  He said technical colleges are becoming a more prominent part of secondary education.

He also said the school is planning a more formal ceremony to celebrate the anniversary in October.
