Farmers test new irrigation technology

Posted: Updated:
CAMILLA, GA (WALB) -

South Georgia researchers show off the latest in irrigation technology.

About 120 guests toured the Stripling Irrigation Research Park in Camilla to see irrigation research and demonstration projects.

Farmers also discussed ways to protect their crops from heavy rains.

Some of the new irrigation tools on display, haven't been put out in the Georgia market yet.

"We're showing a lot of sensor technology that farmers could use to schedule irrigation. We have scientist that are looking at some of the newer varieties of peanut and cotton that they can use in their farms," said Calvin Perry, Stripling Irrigation Research Park.

The research park grows cotton, corn and peanuts, crops that usually need irrigation in Southwest Georgia. This irrigation field tour is held every other year. Copyright 2013 WALB.  All rights reserved.
