(RNN) - Hasbro is making waves with the latest revamp of its storied Monopoly franchise.
With gameplay designed to last less than 30 minutes, the new Monopoly Empire is supposed to appeal to families with children who are presumably less inclined to spend hours playing a board game, according to the Daily Mail.
Rather than focusing on picking up properties, players of this game can purchase some of the biggest brands in the world in what may be considered a less than subtle form of product placement for Xbox, Coca-Cola and McDonald's.
Even the playing pieces are crafted with those iconic brands in mind instead of the classic iron, thimble and shoe. For instance, a player can choose to move a miniature Xbox controller around the board. Earlier in 2013, Hasbro asked fans of the game to select a new game piece - the cat won - and discontinued the iron.
"Splash your Monopoly cash to build your Empire tower as high as it can go. You'll need to make tough decisions and smart moves to take down the competition and be the first to reach the top," Hasbro declared on its website.
The jail space features the frowning visage of Jake the Jailbird behind bars, while Officer Edgar Mallory awaits unlucky rollers in the "Go to Jail" space, according to Hasbro.
For those who prefer their Monopoly longer and unbranded, fear not. The basic version still exists, and now includes a new playing piece, a cat, which was voted into the game.
Many specialized versions of the classic Monopoly game have been produced, featuring sports teams, brands and television shows.
The name of the most coveted, highest-priced property varies depending on the country. In the U.S., it's named Boardwalk. Spain's version boasts Paseo del Prado and France's version includes Rue de la Paix.
