Mold shuts down south Georgia school

WILCOX CO., GA (WALB) -

Classes will not start Thursday as scheduled in one south Georgia school because of mold.

The first day of school at Wilcox County Elementary School has been delayed until August 13th.

The other schools in the system will start Thursday

Workers tried to clean up mold and mildew the superintendent says formed in a few classrooms during the unusually wet summer.

But late Wednesday, administrators got the word from an environmental engineering firm that tests found mold in the air conditioning system in the kindergarten wing.

The elementary school will be closed while that area is treated and the rest of the school is tested.
