ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Medical professionals are making sure children are prepared for the new school year.

South Albany Medical Center held its third annual back to school drive, gathering supplies and school uniforms they got through fundraisers.

The 20 families who applied for the help came to pick up their school bags.

"It's so important because, now with the economy being so bad and it's very hard for individuals in general to buy things for themselves, it's just very heart-warming to help individuals that are in need," said Joycelyn Yates of South Albany Medical Center.

South Albany Medical Center is still accepting donations of school supplies for another drive. On August 14th they'll host an annual community giveaway as part of national health center week.

The center helped more than 100 families Last year.
