ABAC introduces Morgan as baseball coach

ABAC has introduced their second head baseball coach this offseason.

Robert Morgan is taking over the Stallions' baseball program this season.

Morgan is a former All-American shortstop at Valdosta State, where he set numerous Blazer single-season records. He also holds the Division II record with 32 doubles in a season.

Morgan takes over for Jeff Kilgore, who resigned only nine days after accepting the position. He took the head coaching job at his alma mater, Emmanuel College.

But Morgan doesn't believe the strange offseason has left him or the Stallions behind the eight-ball.

He believes he's inherited a terrific situation.

"Coach Kilgore did a good job recruiting and got some players coming in that I've also recruited before that I know very well, and some new faces as well that I'm going to have to learn," Morgan says. "But we're real excited about the guys we have coming in and we'll see when we get here what we have."

Morgan says he wishes it was day one, and is excited about getting down to business. He says that started by meeting his players.

"I just really wanted to introduce myself to them, and say we're going to try some new things this year," he says. "We're going to have fun and keep baseball in the perspective of what it is, and it's a game. A lot of people, a lot of guys on the team try to put too much emphasis into it, and to me, it's a game. They need to have fun and enjoy it."

This is Morgan's first head coaching job. He's served in the past as an assistant coach at Valdosta State, Georgia Southwestern, and Georgia Perimeter.
