Local law enforcement officials and Muscogee County Coroner Buddy Bryan confirm that 53-year-old Officer Thomas Keith Slay was heading to provide back-up to another officer who was in pursuit of a suspect. Another vehicle pulled out and hit Slay's vehicle, which then crashed into a pole.

The accident took place across the street from B. Merrell's restaurant on Veterans parkway.

Another officer involved in the accident is recovering from injuries.
