Long time reporter passes

TIFTON, GA (WALB) -

We at WALB and the city of Tifton are mourning the death of former 10 Country reporter Joe Courson.

Joe died overnight at the age 62 following an illness. Joe Courson worked 28 years providing radio and television reports for the University of Georgia Extension Service.

As the 10 Country reporter, Joe brought WALB viewers unique stories on south Georgians each week.

Joe was also an avid pilot and active in local politics in Tifton. He served as chairman of the airport commission and ran for Tifton City Council last year.

Tyron Spearman, a longtime friend, said Courson always wanted to make the world a better place, and he did that.

  • Joe's 10 Country franchise ran for seven years on WALB. His final report on the alligator mascot of the Okefenokee Swamp is linked at the right...

Visitation for Joe Courson will take place Wednesday night at Albritton-Beaumont Funeral home.

Funeral services are at 11 Thursday morning at Our Divine Savior Catholic Church in Tifton.
