ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

The Boys and Girls club of Albany kicked off their college readiness program that they hope will improve the graduation rate in the county. A $30,000 check from SASCO Chemical Group was presented to the Jane Willson Boys and Girls club to start their Diplomas to Degrees program this fall.

The program provides resources and mentors for teens ages 13-18 years old to help them transition to high school and to college. Diplomas to Degrees also helps teens set plans to go to technical schools and the military. The program helps teens gain skills needed to reach their post-secondary goals and to have successful careers. Club officials say this program is needed at a time when the nation's high school graduation rate is low.

"It's a great program its making an imprint on many of our youth throughout the country," said Director of Academic Success Dee Hatcher. "It's one of those programs that helps to make dreams come true."

Dougherty County's graduation rate was 67% in 2012. So far, d2D has reached 21,000 youths nationwide in 600 Boys and Girls Club locations.
