ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

A South Georgia pastor is spreading the gospel and changing the lives of people around his community through his daily visitations. It's laughter and fellowship that Pastor Bernard Collier has brought to the Doerun community for more than ten years. Pastor Collier says it was a calling from God in the late 1990's that led him to pastor both Bailey Chapel A.M.E. Church and St. James A.M.E. in Nashville, Georgia.

"I was like most people I was afraid," said Pastor Bernard Collier. "Because I looked at my own personal self and said that I'm not qualified. But see its not for man to qualify, it's God that qualifies us."

With more than 120 members combined, Pastor Collier didn't start his ministry until his early forties, but he says age is nothing but a number.

"When Moses was called Moses was 80 years old when God called him, so its not about the age its what we do with what God has called us," said Collier.

Pastor Collier is known in the community for his daily visitations, visiting both members and non-members from Moultrie to as far as Macon.

"We go back to what we are suppose to be doing getting out and greeting and meeting the people in the community," said Collier.

Doerun resident Rosie Lee Pittman says she enjoys her visits from Pastor Collier.

"Reverend Collier come to see me when I'm sick, always feel at home and he's a good preacher, minister, and I like him," said Rosie Lee Pittman.

Pastor Collier suffered his own medical set back earlier this year when medical issues arose from a left leg amputation that he received in the mid 1980's.

"But I haven't stopped allowing that to stop me in ministry," said Collier.

Pastor Collier says he has an open door policy for the community and is available 24/7.

"We can't just sit here at the church and wait until the people come to us," said Collier. "We have to go out and compel the people as the word says to come."

A practice that Pastor Collier preaches every day.
