HAHIRA, GA (WALB) -

A Moody Air Force helicopter is back at the base after it made an emergency landing at Hahira Middle School in Lowndes County.

Moody Officials say around noon Tuesday pilots of the HH-60G Pave Hawk made a precautionary landing in the middle school's football field after a light on the aircraft indicated a potential mechanical issue.

It was a routine maintenance check flight for the airmen, but the light indicated the pilots needed to land the aircraft as soon as possible.

Residents in the area say it was a frightening scene.

"It sounded strange, and it almost landed in the trees on the other side of the trailer park. And it managed to get over here to the field, and when it got to the field it was just shuttering and vibrating all over," said witness Jeanette Watson.

Officials say they're working to find out what caused the light to go off.
