VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) -

Second harvest Food Bank in Valdosta is helping teachers stock up on school supplies. Teachers lined up outside the food bank Monday, waiting to get into the Teacher's Harvest school supplies room.

Since the program started four years ago, they've served more than 2500 teachers and given away nearly $1.75 million in school supplies.

Teachers from area Title One schools can get supplies through the program twice a month.

"It's such a blessing because teachers spend so much money out of pocket to provide  for their classrooms and this just helps out so much from getting started with school supplies and paper. It's just a real blessing," said 7th Grade Teacher Kristy James.

All the supplies were donated by local and national businesses as well as the Kids in Need Foundation.

Teachers Harvest, founded by Second Harvest of South Georgia in 2009, is a program dedicated to ensuring that each and every student in South Georgia has the basic school supplies needed to succeed in school.

Second Harvest of South Georgia is located at 1411 Harbin Circle in Valdosta. They can be reached by phone at (229) 244-2678 or by email at emccall@feedingsga.org

The Kids In Need Foundation is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization founded in 1995. The Foundation's mission is to ensure that every child is prepared to learn and succeed by providing free school supplies nationally to students most in need. The foundation can be found on the web at www.kinf.org.
