Driver injured in head-on collision dies

DENHAM SPRINGS, LA (WAFB) -

A second person has died following a two-vehicle crash Saturday night.

Louisiana State Police reported Bryan Payne, 22, of Denham Springs, died from his injuries Sunday evening. He was pronounced dead at Our Lady of the Lake Hospital in Baton Rouge around 7:30 p.m.

The wreck happened on LA 64 (Magnolia Bridge Road) west of LA 1028 in Denham Springs just before 9 p.m. Saturday. Mickel Tetreault, 20, of Livingston, also died in the crash. He was a passenger in Payne's truck.

Troopers said their investigation showed a 2013 Chevrolet Silverado driven by Samuel Doherty III, 28, of Baton Rouge, crossed the center line and collided head-on with a 1997 Ford pickup driven by Payne.

They added it is believed Doherty was impaired at the time of the crash.

Blood samples from both drivers were sent to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis. Charges are still pending.

The crash remains under investigation.
