Free school supplies for Valdosta kids

VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) -

Organizers are gearing up for the 5th annual Tools For School Back to School Giveaway in Valdosta.

They'll hand out more than 500 book bags and school supplies. Volunteers will give away supplies on a first come first serve basis tomorrow.

It's hosted by the Valdosta-Lowndes County Parks & Recreation Authority, and organized Chanel Randolph and Nick Harden. The Valdosta fire department, the American Red Cross, Wiregrass Technical College, and other groups will take part.

"It does make a huge difference. I have parents come and say 'thank you.'It may just be paper, it may just be a notebook, but it means a lot to them. It's one less cost that they have to incur," said organizer Chanel Randolph.

Local businesses donated all the supplies. The giveaway will be tomorrow from 9am to 1pm at the Mildred Hunter Community Center on Fry Street.
