ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Special Olympians from across Georgia are in Albany for an early round of games leading up to the State games in Warner Robins in three weeks. They represent Albany, Newnan, Camilla, and other cities.

These are masters level athletes, over 22 years old, and they're bowling at the Bowl-A-Rama on Broad Avenue.

The Albany Recreation and Parks Department is hosting the Strikers' Classic Masters Bowling Invitational for Special Olympics Georgia (SOGA) for the third year.

"All of our athletes love getting a T-shirt. Getting the dog tag award, and getting a place level certificate. They enjoy seeing the friends they have met through the years, and it's just a really fun event," said organizer Kristin Caso.

Invitations were sent this spring to all Special Olympics Georgia accredited agencies in the state of Georgia.  Approximately 100 athletes will participate in the competition.

Charles White, SOGA Senior Sports and Programs Manager said, "Special Olympics Georgia is very excited about the Strikers Classic State Bowling Invitational in Albany!  This is a top notch event with athletes from around the state.  Albany Recreation and Parks Department, along with the help of volunteers from the community do a fantastic job with this and we look forward to a great competition."

Jim Wallace will have more information on this story later today on WALB.
