Stolen bracelet makes 40 year journey home

AMERICUS, GA (WALB) -

Jennifer Buchanan is reunited with a bracelet that was stolen from her in 1973. The way it got back to her is a long and amazing story that runs from Americus to Texas, and back.

Jennifer got the bracelet as a gift in 1968 from a family friend, but it was stolen in spring of 1973 after someone broken into her house.

A vacation to Crystal Beach, near Beaumont, Texas in 1993 by a Texas woman, was the coincidence that made the story possible.

That woman found the bracelet at the beach, and tried to find the owner by running newspaper ads.

That was unsuccessful, so she decided to share pictures of the bracelet on Facebook, and it eventually received over 2,000 shares.

Someone saw it and tagged Jennifer's niece,  Jeri Ann Faircloth, and mentioned that it looked like it belongs to someone in her family.

Jeri Ann notified her aunt Jennifer, who recognized what she had lost four decades before.

"So many friends had shared it until somebody recognized the names. They posted my name in the comment to find out if it belonged to my family," said Jeri Ann Faircloth.

In fact about two week ago. I went through all my jewelry and organized.  I was thinking, I wish I had those two necklaces, the class ring and my charm bracelet that I lost and then--- did you see? do you recognize this? Is this your bracelet? I'm thinking 'oh my gosh', said Jen Buchanan, owner of bracelet.

The retired Sumter County teacher say seeing the bracelet brings back many memories. She's excited to have it back.

"I gonna wear it. I'm not going to put it in any jewelry box where anybody can see it. It will be stored, but I'm probably gonna wear it," said Jen Buchanan.

Jen Buchanan got the bracelet back yesterday.  She says she'll write the Texas woman a long note telling her thanks for keeping it all these years.
