Strive to Thrive graduates first group of circle leaders

ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

A different kind of graduation tonight is also ensuring a better future for the graduates and others. Strive to Thrive graduated its first class of circle leaders at Porterfield Memorial United Methodist Church.

The seven women are previous graduates of the Strive to Thrive program organized by the Chamber of Commerce to pull families out of poverty. The women completed the first portion and then went through a second round to become leaders to help others in the program.
Thursday’s ceremony included an inspiring speech, videos highlighting each graduate's journey, and the presentation of their circle leader awards.

“When a lot of the circle leaders came to us their plan was for that day, and for the first time in their life they have been able to set goals for their future, and they can obtain those goals and many of them have met those goals,” said Cynthia Georgia, Co-Founder of the Strive to Thrive Program.

“I’ve accomplished a lot, my mind, my spirit and everything, it's wonderful, it's a great feeling,” said Shanika Owens, a graduate of Thursday evenings circle leader ceremony.

The organization will hold a fundraiser on Monday night at Sonny's Barbeque. Strive to Thrive volunteers will serve as waiters and all tips will go to the program. In order to participate you have to make a reservation with the restaurant, slots will be available for 5:30pm, 6:30pm, and 7:30pm.
