ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

The Children's Miracle Network is in their first day of their annual Radiothon to raise money for hospital equipment. Radio announcers and volunteers answered phones today to raise money in support of Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital.

All proceeds will go towards buying neo-natal ambulances and incubators. Miss Georgia and Lee County native Carly Mathis stopped by to show her support for the event. The Children's Miracle Network is the platform of the Miss America organization. Volunteers say its important to help children right here in their hometown.

"It's important for people to give and give cheerfully to philanthropy to help us reach our goals and continue to take care of our kids here at home," said coordinator Amanda Biery. "Because what you don't want to have happen is a family to have to travel four or five hours away from home to get the care that they need."

"So it's just exciting and people can call in and call me and I'll take down whatever money your willing to give and every little bit counts," said Miss Georgia Carly Mathis.

Their goal is to raise $60,000 in two days. You can call 565-3266 to donate or text CMN to 27722 for a one time $10 donation added to your cell bill.
