Students in several South Georgia school systems will no longer have to worry about lunch money, thanks to the Community Eligibility Option program.
The program was created through the 2010 Federal Healthy Hunger Free Kids Act.
Georgia School systems, where more than 40 percent of students receive public assistance, are eligible to participate in the program and Dougherty County is one of them.
Right now the program is available in Georgia, Kentucky, West Virginia and Illinois, but in 2015 it will be available nationwide.
We think the CEO program is an innovative way to reduce administrative paper work and labor cost, and allows for a healthier student body and a healthier school meal budget!
