S. Georgia cattle farmer offers reward for capture of arsonist
COLQUITT CO., GA (WALB) -
A South Georgia cattle farmer plans to offer a reward up to $10,000 to catch the arsonist who burned down a barn filled with top quality hay.
The fire started around 3:00am on Stan Savage's farm on Sumner Road in Colquitt County.
A neighbor took pictures of the inferno. Most of the hay was from last year. Wet weather has diminished the quality of this year's hay. Now bringing it up to the level his cows need will cost even more. “I'm going to have to use some protein source, either buy cottonseed or something like that to help bring up the protein needs of the cows, and the energy needs of the cows, so it's a double expense,” said Savage.
The loss of the barn and 200 thousand pounds of hay equals about $100,000.
