TIFTON, GA (WALB) -

Some students at Tift County High School are upset that they will have to pay more to park their cars at school.

The parking fee doubles to $80 for the 2013-2014 school year. Permits went on sale Wednesday.

School Board members say the change was necessary because of state budget cuts and to pay for a parking monitor.

Students have had mixed reviews.

"It's just putting us in a tight situation," says Senior Rebecca Baker. "$80 here. School supplies. Having to pay for our gas alone and its going up. I mean its kind of a big deal."

"Driving to school is a privilege," says Junior Hannah Crumley. "I think every teenager wants to be able to drive to school. I'm willing to pay it."

We checked with several other area high schools and found parking fees ranging from $0 to $25 per year.

Students at Fitzgerald High School pay $15 to park at school. Officials tell us that money goes toward student activities.
