VPD offers reward in unsolved murder

Trent McDaniel, Valdosta Printing owner Trent McDaniel, Valdosta Printing owner

Valdosta Police are asking for your help to solve the murder of a beauty store employee who was shot to death in May. There is a $2,500 dollar reward for information that leads to the killer.

"Something needs to be done and somebody knows something out there," said Trent McDaniel, Valdosta Printing owner. McDaniel wants to know who killed the man he worked next door to on Ashley Street. McDaniel called Kenwaljit Serai his neighbor; a quiet but polite man who was shot to death during a robbery on May 10th.

"I do feel bad about it, sure do. And it's next door to me," said McDaniel.

It's an unsolved case that the Valdosta Police Department doesn't want people to forget about.

"We need the community's help in this case. There are people out there we know, knows what happened," said Chief Brian Childress.

The shooting happened on a Friday night as Serai was closing up Ashley Beauty Supply. Right now investigators have two people of interest they're pursuing.

"We have a good idea of what happened over there. We're asking somebody to come forth and give us a little bit more information. If your information helps us get an arrest you walk away with a $2,500 check," said Childress.

Ashley Beauty Supply was also known for it's gambling machines. There were multiple video poker machines customers played on in the back of the store.

"We've explored the operation of those machines and the legality of them but it's an active investigation. I can't comment any more than that," said Childress.

But he says whoever killed Serai had visited this store more than once. "We believe that the person who killed our victim was over there for a specific reason."

The owners of Ashley Beauty Supply have since closed the store.

If you have any information on this murder, Valdosta Police ask you to call them at 229-293-3145.
