Public and private flood prevention project to move forward

LEE CO., GA (WALB) - Lee County Commissioners approved a resolution that will allow a public/private flood prevention project to move forward.

Heavy rain often leads to standing water in the North Doublegate area. The county will work with Oakland Plantation Partners to install new drainage under Highway 82 and expand a holding pond.

"It not only relieves me, it makes the homeowners of North Doublegate Drive, it makes them feel a lot better after knowing that their property will not flood," said County commissioner Ed Duffy.
Oakland Plantation partners will pay for most of the project. Commissioners approved using about $32,000 in sales tax revenue to pay for the county's part of the $160,000 project.
