ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

A scholarship has been named to honor one sheriff's 35 years of service in law enforcement. Crisp County Sheriff Donnie Haralson was presented with a scholarship from the Georgia Narcotics Officers' Association.

The $1500 scholarship is for college juniors majoring in criminology. Applicants must maintain a 3.0 GPA and attend an accredited four year Georgia college. Sheriff Haralson says there is a need for more citizens to enter the law enforcement field.

"It's exciting especially when you can solve a crime and help a family recover from someone a loved one that they've lost or been killed and you can catch that person and bring them to justice," said Sheriff Donnie Haralson. "It's really satisfying to get that pat on the back from the family member saying thank you."

The application deadline is July 31st. For more information on the scholarship and to receive the application click here or call the Crisp County Sheriff's Office at 229-276-2600.
