ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

An Albany recovery center has helped hundreds of women overcome substance abuse and addictions over the last decade. Staff members at GraceWay use their faith and their own experiences to empower recovering addicts to become productive members of society.

These writings on the wall about spirituality and faith provide a daily dose of love and hope to women like Shannon Burke to help them overcome addiction.

"I definitely went to some pretty low places in my past," said Counselor Shannon Burke.

After battling substance abuse for ten years she came to GraceWay in 2010 where she decided to turn her life around.

"Tough love, unconditional love but regardless they were there for me and they helped me to come out of my shell and see what I was capable of," said Burke.

"We all know what the problem of addiction is but GraceWay is here to offer a solution and the solution is spiritual," said Executive Director Liz Dixon.

More than 30 women are given a fresh start towards a life of sobriety at GraceWay's non-profit recovery residence community. This spiritual home environment is where the women create a bond of sisterhood to fight their addictions.

"We always have great beautiful women that always come through this program," said Burke.

Counselors at GraceWay have been through the program themselves and use spiritual recovery and the 12-steps of Alcoholics Anonymous to show women that a life of addiction is not where they want to be.

"We believe in being the change that you wanna see," said Burke.

Once women have graduated from the program they can move next door to GraceWay's "The Way" sober living apartments to continue pursuing employment and a higher education during their long term recovery. GraceWay officials say the community can help them continue making a difference with one call or a simple click of the mouse.

"We need the help of the community to keep these doors open, we need prayer and we need financial support," said Dixon.

"Miracles go on in this house," said Burke.

GraceWay is coming up on its 10th Anniversary of delivering miracles on August 4th.  If you'd like more information on how you can donate or be involved at GraceWay click here.
