Man wanted in Worth Co. caught in Virginia

A man wanted in Worth County is sitting in jail in Virginia Tuesday night, awaiting extradition to south Georgia.  Buddy Forrester led authorities on a manhunt Monday and now faces new charges.   Not many of his neighbors knew him, but one did talk about a recent encounter with the convicted felon.

"I didn't think too much about him, because the guy was weird," said Mack Wilburn.  Wilburn, who's lived in Sumner for 20 years, had a recent encounter with Buddy Forrester.

"He came over here before and acted kind of strange. You know how people are when you meet somebody and they act weird. That's the way he acted, just weird.  And we said, I don't really like his company and we just waved him on off," said Wilburn.

But Wilburn had no idea his neighbor, who lived down the street on South Sumner Road would take authorities on a manhunt across the country.

"That really scared the whole neighborhood.  Things happen like that right under our nose and we don't know anything about it," said Wilburn.

GBI agents say 34 year-old Forrester assaulted a woman and her daughter and held them against their will in this house on Monday.  After he fled, one of the victims called for help.

"We don't know the relationship between the victims and the suspect. Other than that they traveled from up north down to the South Georgia area together. And that they came here together," said Mark Pro, GBI agent.

Family members of the victim say Forrester was her boyfriend.

Less than 24 hours later, Forrester was arrested more than 600 miles away in Greensville County, Virginia. State troopers there tried to pull him over, but he took them on a short chase before surrendering.

"Teamwork in law enforcement, when we communicate with other law enforcement agencies, they tend to help us and we help them and the media also plays a large part in this," said Pro.

Forrester faces charges for child molestation, kidnapping and sodomy in Worth County and more are pending. And Wilburn says he's glad Forrester is behind bars.

"It's a good thing he's caught, because who wants that in a neighborhood? And after all the years I've been here we've never had crime at all," said Wilburn.

And he hopes it will remain that way, especially now that Forrester is gone.

Buddy Forrester is also facing charges in Virginia. He's expected to be extradited to Worth County in the next few days.

Forrester was on parole. He served prison time for burglary convictions in Clarke County.

Convicted felon Buddy James Forrester, 34, has been captured in Virginia. This comes as he was sought by authorities after they say he attacked a juvenile and a woman Monday.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation says a Virginia State Trooper found him a little before 12 p.m. in Greensville County, VA.

Officials say Forrester tried to get away, and led troopers on a short chase in his vehicle, before they used a "pit" maneuver to stop him and he surrendered.

Forrester is charged with child molestation, kidnapping, and sodomy, as well as charges in Virginia.

Forrester served prison time for burglary convictions in Clarke County and investigators say he has ties to Gainesville, Georgia and Delaware.
