ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Cheryl Calhoun announced Tuesday morning that she is running for the Ward 3 City Commission seat currently held by Christopher Pike.

Calhoun tried to run for Ward 2 two years ago, but was disqualified due to confusion over exactly where the ward lines were drawn.

It the previous election, 259 votes for Calhoun were not counted after election officials disqualified her for not living in Ward 2.

She says she wants to be a positive voice for the people in Ward 3, focusing on helping the children who are headed down the wrong path.

"Because this is the good life city.  Look at these streets.  Look at the streets that are always in the news.  We should not put that on the back burner.  Let's go for it.  And that's what I'm concerned about," she said.

Christopher Pike currently holds the seat for Ward 3.  He has not made an announcement yet on whether he will run again.  B. J. Fletcher is also running in that race.

The mother of four is a school bus driver for Dougherty County and a volunteer.  She has lived in Albany for seven years.
