South Albany Church in need of back-to-school supplies

ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

With less than two weeks until the first day of school for Dougherty County, one South Albany church is looking to ease the sting of back-to-school shopping.

New Macedonia Baptist Church is working  with the Martin Luther King Memorial Chapel to help out students in need of supplies this year with a Back to School Bash next week.

They've already had several donations but are still asking for more to reach over 200 kids.

"We're trying to give back as much as we can to our community and let them know that we are concerned about their education because that is one of our main drives here, knowing that knowledge is power," said Pastor Ronald Brown.

Supplies can be dropped off at the church, the Martin Luther King Memorial Chapel, High End Detail Shop, and Advanced Communication.

They're asking for any and all school supplies, everything from glue to backpacks, to meet the needs for as many children in as many grades as possible.

Parents and students can pick up supplies next Monday, July 29th from 10 am to 2pm at New Macedonia Baptist Church on 620 Zackery Avenue.
