ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Registration for Dougherty County students attending new schools is underway.

The first day of school in Dougherty County is August 5th.

School officials had to rezone the system after closing three schools. Parents are now being asked to go to their child's new school to register.

Parents do not need to bring academic or health records if their child was in the school system last year.

"We want parents and students to have every opportunity to get familiar with the new school," says R.D. Harter with Dougherty County Schools. "And that registration will be one point of being familiar. That's why the open house is so important too, it gives parents time to come in."

Open house is set for Thursday, August 1st for elementary, middle school, 9th grade and new high school students.

Registration lasts until Wednesday, July 31st.
