Officials caution drivers on roads with farm equipment

Posted: Updated:
WARWICK, GA (WALB) -

Law enforcement is reminding drivers of the importance of watching out for farm vehicles on highways after a crash Thursday morning.

Oakfield vegetable farmer A.W. Gill was driving south on Hwy. 300 on his tractor around 8:30 a.m. when a pickup truck slammed into the back of his tractor.

Gill was taken to the hospital and listed in critical condition.

It doesn't take long for a car or truck in a high speed zone to close in on a farm vehicle.

Law enforcement officers remind you those vehicles have every legal right to be on the roads, so drivers need to slow down when approaching them.

In an effort to curb accidents, the Governor's Office of Highway Safety and the Georgia Department of Agriculture launched "Improving Georgia's Yield Behind The Wheel" - a Campaign to reduce the number of accidents and deaths on state highways.
