GRADY COUNTY, GA (WALB) -

Construction will soon begin on a lake project more than 70 years in the making.

Grady County Commissioners voted to approve Brad Cole Construction out of Carrollton to build the Tired Creek Lake Dam.

Financial and legal hurdles stalled the project until now, but county officials say they now have the green light to build.

"We hope to break ground on dam construction in the next few weeks. The same will be occurring on mitigation construction. At the same time we'll be planning the facilities necessary to create marinas and swimming areas and docks and things of that nature," said Grady County Attorney Kevin Cauley.

County officials say a new lake authority has been created to help the county commission develop the resources necessary to the make the lake a public facility.
