Daughter orchestrates fundraiser for mother battling cancer

LEE CO., GA (WALB) -

A South Georgia woman is partnering with Chili's bar and grill restaurant to help her mother, who is battling Leukemia.

Amber Varnadoe's mother Wendy was diagnosed with a rare form of the cancer this year. She has been scheduled for a bone marrow transplant set to take place in August. Even with insurance coverage, she'll still have major medical bills.

Amber believes that helping her mother will bring them closer together.

"I'm really excited that's probably what I'm looking forward to the most, I really wanted to do something for her, and I figured this would give me an opportunity to get to know her because we never lived together, and I figured this would help bring us closer,” said Varnadoe.

Christ United Methodist Church is hosting a silent auction July 27th.

On Sunday Chilli's bar and grill located on Ledo Road will donate 10% of their sales for everyone who brings in a voucher.

Tickets are $10 and for more information folks are encouraged to call 229-376-3212
