ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

An Albany gas station clerk believes the thieves who robbed her Sunday may also be responsible for a similar robbery at a Lee County store over the weekend.

Bethany Phelps was working at the Fast Lane on Sylvester road when a woman came in and asked for two cartons of Newport cigarettes.

Surveillance footage captured the woman as she acted like she swiped her credit card before grabbing the cartons off the counter and running out the door.

A similar crime was captured on camera at Flash Foods on Highway 19-south Saturday night.  This time a man grabs cigarettes and runs.  Phelps said she recognizes the hat the man was wearing.

"Well because the hats, they match.  And basically when you go and see, like, the store in different counties and ask for two cartons of the same kind, it's kind of suspicious.  So I think they were a couple," said Bethany Phelps, Clerk.

Phelps said she's more careful now, holding onto some items until she receives money from the customer.  She said other clerks should keep their guard up and be aware of the couple.

Anyone with information that could lead to an arrest can call CRIME-STOPPERS at 436-TIPS.
