THOMASVILLE, GA (WALB) -

South Georgia blood centers are putting out a call for donors as they push through the slow summer months.

OneBlood representatives say with many folks out of school or on vacation, donations are down.

Blood centers especially need O-negative donors because that is the universal blood type, but all blood types are welcomed.

Long-time donor Wayne Sellers says he visits the Thomasville branch every time he is eligible.

"I've been a lifetime donor ever since the 80's. I was in the Jaycee's and had a little girl that needed blood back then and I started donating then to help her out and just kept on going. My buddy and I do doubles here all the time."

Wiregrass Technical College is hosting a blood drive Thursday on Perry House Road in Fitzgerald in honor of Ben McMahan who was diagnosed with esophageal cancer.
