Albany non-profit aims to win national contest


One Albany non-profit group is looking to spread their efforts for 'Nutrition with a Mission' throughout the country.

The Bread House and Granary entered a contest among more than 300 other businesses for a chance to win a $15,000 dollar national ad campaign.

"The secret ingredient to that is love and care, at Graceway and at the bread house," said Liz Dixon, Graceway Executive Director. "That's what we're all about."

The Bread House is one of the many ways Graceway Recovery Residence for Women helps keep the residents accountable and responsible with their steps to recovery.

The organization provides substance abuse and addiction treatment and relapse prevention for women.

"Gives these women the opportunity to be empowered and to get back in the work force, show their skills, and I think a lot of our customers actually come here to visit with our residents, because they shine," said Dixon. "They glow with the new found freedom that they have."

The residents make fresh, nutritious treats and run the store daily. Now, they're attempting to take their mission nationwide to expand and help women all over the US.

"We believe in the power of miracles," said Dixon. "Having this happen and going to the next level we will be able to employ more women and perhaps multiply the Bread House and Graceway."

This year is the organizations 10th year helping women re-enter their families and society after struggling with addiction.
