DOUGHERTY COUNTY, GA -

Dougherty County Police are asking for donations to be able to give school supplies to 800 children.

Emergency responders from D-C-P, The Sheriff's Office,  School Police,  E-M-S, and the Fire Department will host their 6th annual National Night Out Celebration.

Last year they gave school supplies to 600 children but did not have enough for all the kids who showed up.

This year, with sponsors help, they hope to feed several thousand people and have enough supplies to get all the kids ready for school.

"We don't want any child to go to school the first day without any school supplies," said Dougherty County Police Sgt. Chad Kirkpatrick. "Some kid that may be the only meal that week. At least they are getting that meal at the minimum. We're doing what we can to help."

National Night Out is a traditional time for communities to join with police and first responders, and promote crime prevention. This year it will be August 1st at Radium Springs Middle School from 5 to 8 PM.

If you would like to help sponsor the event, or provide school supplies for students, call the Dougherty County Police at 430-6600 with your donations.
