MOULTRIE, GA (WALB) -

A Moultrie company will hold a job fair Friday for men and women who've served our country. AshurTech Incorporated is looking to fill 20 positions, mostly in their construction, I.T., and warehouse divisions.

Company officials said their business is growing, and said they want to help veterans transition to civilian life.

John Wilkerson and Olaf Gebhart were inspired to hold a job fair after hearing about furlough days caused by sequestration.

The two men are vets themselves, and said offering solid work opportunities is their way of giving back and saying thanks to our armed forces.

Retired Navy Lieutenant Commander John Wilkerson and Former Air Force Airman Olaf Gebhart said the large empty room in their offices could be filled with job seekers later this week.

"The job fair is gonna be targeting veterans and civil service people that are maybe being part of sequestration.  Being released from their position for a period of time, that are having to find employment elsewhere," said John Wilkerson, AshurTech CEO.

Their company participates in a special program designed to help armed forces smoothly transition to the commercial sector.

"We were part of a program that AT&T sponsored called 'Operation Hand Salute,' that we were selected for this year that allowed us to grow in the commercial sector and doing cell tower work," Wilkerson said.

They were kicked into action after furloughs started at the Marine Corps Logistics Base in Albany.

"It was wonderful to see that businesses were reaching out and offering discounts to those who've been furloughed, and that helps them on the short term basis.  But they need a paycheck and we need employees," said Olaf Gebhart, AshurTech COO.

Gebhart said the openings offer a bright future to potential employees.

"These are not low paying jobs, these are jobs all across the board.  High paying jobs.  You're looking at jobs that'll go anywhere between 40-to-70 thousand dollars a year with health insurance, benefits.  There is travel involved with it for the people that are out in the field," he said.

But vets aren't the only ones who are encouraged to apply.

"I want qualified people from this area...is what I would like to do.  We've dragged people from out of the area, and re-locating them to here, and that's good.  But there's, I know there's gotta be a lot of qualified people that are currently living in this area that don't know who we are," said Wilkerson.

Wilkerson said he's confident his company will continue to grow, and said even more openings could become available in the future.

Wilkerson and Gebhart said their own experience moving from the military to the commercial sector will help them help others make the transition.   Most of the positions are permanent full-time openings, though some temporary work is available.

The job fair will be held at the AshurTech offices at 3301 Freedom Lane in Moultrie from 9am to 12pm on July 19th.
