Albany Police catch jewelry thief

ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Albany Police say the man who swiped some expensive jewelry from an Albany store has been caught.

Scott Ansley Anderson is charged with Robbery and Obstruction of an Officer.

He was taken into custody Wednesday at the McDonalds near the corner of Slappey Boulevard and Palmyra Road just after 6 p.m.

Owner Steve Allen says it all started when Anderson was looking at two necklaces worth about $4,000 Monday afternoon at Allen's Jewelry on Dawson Road. Allen says he grabbed them, ran out of the store, and rode off in a car driven by an accomplice.

He was spotted twice since the robbery- but was able to escape both times until now.

"We work hard for our money, and it's kinda bad when somebody takes off like that and steals all that much money from you, but times are bad and it was probably drug related, says Allen. "I mean most all this stuff is drug related, so you gotta think that's what this was."

Allen said shortly before the theft, Albany Police called and warned him about a similar crime at another jewelry store.

There was no immediate word on a bond amount.
