Albany-Dougherty NAACP host Warren Hill vigil

The NAACP sponsored a dozen anti-death penalty rallies around the state today for Warren Hill.

Hill was sentenced to death for the 1990 beating death of his cell mate at Lee State Prison where he was serving a life sentence for another murder.

Demonstrators believe Hill is mentally disabled.  That would mean he couldn't legally be executed.  It's an argument his lawyers want the chance to make before the U-S Supreme Court.

"The law makes an exception for people who are not mentally competent," said Albany-Dougherty NAACP Branch President Marvin Lewis. "But it seems that for whatever reason our justice system seems to want to enforce this death penalty for him."

Hill's execution was postponed after the inmate's attorneys raised questions about a law prohibiting the release of information involving Georgia's execution drug supply. The lawyers say they should have a right to know where the drug is coming from
